- CCPC warns Irish motor industry over anticompetitive practices restricting independent vehicle repair and parts choice
- Reports of motorists being told warranty void if using non-authorised dealers or non-original parts
- Independent garages blocked from accessing essential diagnostic data and tools
- CCPC seeking information from distributors; will take enforcement action if breaches found
"The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has issued a warning to Ireland's motor industry following reports of anticompetitive practices. Motorists have been prevented from using independent garages for servicing and repairs, with some told their warranty would be void if they used non-authorised dealers or non-original parts. Independent garages have also been blocked from accessing essential diagnostic data and tools. The CCPC sent an industry-wide letter reminding parties that such practices breach competition law, drive up prices, and limit choice. While no formal proceedings have been initiated, the CCPC will take enforcement action if illegal practices are identified."
