- €52 million investment established a network with surgery in Dublin and cardiology in Belfast
- Model could be replicated for other cross-border healthcare services
"Professor Frank Casey, a paediatric cardiologist, told the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement about the successful all-island congenital heart disease network. Established after an international working group in 2014 and a 2015 ministerial statement backed by €52 million, the network centralises surgery in Dublin while maintaining cardiology services in Belfast and satellite centres. Casey highlighted key achievements and outlined elements necessary for cross-border clinical networks, which could be replicated for other conditions."
