"The Ethics in Public Office Act 1995 (No. 22 of 1995) was enacted on 22 July 1995. It requires holders of certain public offices, including members of the Oireachtas, to disclose their interests and prohibits them from retaining valuable gifts. The Act establishes parliamentary committees and an independent commission (now SIPO) to investigate contraventions and issue guidelines. It also amends the Prevention of Corruption Acts 1889 to 1916."
