"The CSO published 'Environmental Indicators Ireland 2025 – Economy, Emissions and Energy' on 19 December 2025. Key findings: Environment taxes totalled €5.5 billion in 2024, up 10.8% from 2023. The share of renewable energy in electricity generation rose from an average of 5.1% (1990-1994) to 40.2% in 2024. Newly licensed cars that were electric or hybrid reached 45.8% in 2024, up from 1.7% in 2015. In 2023, 42.5% of municipal waste was incinerated for energy recovery. Common farmland bird numbers fell by 8.0% from 1998 to 2024."
