"In its 2024 Annual Report, Ireland's Data Protection Commission (DPC) reported concluding four large-scale cross-border inquiries, issuing fines including €310 million against LinkedIn and €251 million against Meta, and commencing new inquiries into Google AI model training, HSE data security, and Ryanair biometrics. The DPC noted an 11% increase in data breach notifications and processed over 32,000 contacts. The Commission, which grew from 210 to 251 staff, engaged intensively on AI regulation, leading to an EDPB opinion on AI model development. The DPC was designated a fundamental rights body under the EU AI Act and highlighted the need for continued government funding to meet expanding responsibilities."
