European Media Freedom Act enters into force (commission.europa.eu)

• EMFA entered into force on 7 May 2024; most provisions applicable from 8 August 2025.
• Protects editorial independence and journalist source confidentiality.
• New European Board for Media Services began work in February 2025.

"The European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) entered into force on 7 May 2024 and has been largely applicable since August 2025. The law protects editorial independence, journalist source confidentiality, independent funding of public service media, and transparency of media ownership and state advertising. A new European Board for Media Services was established in February 2025."
