Ireland's Greenhouse Gas Emissions Decreased by 2% in 2024 (epa.ie)

• Total emissions (excl. LULUCF) decreased by 2% (1.1 Mt CO2eq) to 54 Mt CO2eq.
• Energy industries hit record low, with 39.6% renewable electricity and no peat use.
• Agriculture emissions down 1.7% but fertiliser use up 10.6%.
• Transport saw first post-COVID decline (-1.2%) due to biofuels.
• Buildings emissions rose 5.6% due to colder winter and fossil fuels.

"The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published provisional data showing Ireland's greenhouse gas emissions fell by 2% (1.1 Mt CO2eq) in 2024 compared to 2023. Reductions occurred in nearly all sectors except home heating. Despite three consecutive years of decline, compliance with national and EU climate targets remains extremely challenging: 2024 emissions were 12% below 2018 levels, far from the 2030 target of a 51% reduction."
